Merriam High School
At Merriam High School, we want to give every student a fair and comprehensive opportunity to learn and apply all the skills needed to thrive in a post-secondary institution of their choice. With a specific focus on music, our facilities, additional programs and support give students a musical opportunity like no other. Our end goal is to provide the most enriching and inclusive learning environment, through high-level engagement with content driven by teachers who care.
24/7 Parent Support
With a full team of support staff, parents and students will always have someone available to speak with in person or over email or telephone. It is inevitable that parents and students will have questions, and our professionals are available 7 days a week to be of assistance.
Why Credit Courses?
One can achieve a high school credit through the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) by either completing grade 7 or grade 8 practical exams and the corresponding theory exams. However, these are different course codes than your standard music credit and are optional credits; they may not be used to meet the compulsory credit requirement in the arts or the additional compulsory credit requirement for Group 2.
Merriam High School’s music credits can be used as a compulsory credit requirements as they are not the same as an RCM external credit. Students do not need to meet a certain level of profiency for our grade 9 and 10 courses. They need to demonstrate significant progress and growth on their instrument, but are not required to play at RCM level 7 or 8 like the external RCM high school credits, allowing more students to earn a credit through their extracurricular music lessons.
