Having been a part of Merriam Music since 2002, it is with great pride and joy that I am witnessing another evolution in our school’s history. Teaching is a passion of mine, whether I am teaching students or training teachers, and I look forward to the opportunity to help more people achieve their goals.
Merriam Music has always been a leader in music education, and the next step is to expand our offering to grant high school credits. We will maintain the same exceptional standard, encouraging students to become a complete musician, fluent in the language of music. We will continue to make lessons fun and engaging. We have seen time and again that the more students understand what they’re learning rather than simply memorizing, the more they will enjoy what they’re learning, thereby helping them retain what they’ve learned in years to come.
We give students unique opportunities to connect with music in a way that many thought was not possible – a top-notch performance space, state-of-the-art recording studio and an online classroom that incorporates an interactive whiteboard, all combine together to motivate students to learn and grow together through music and education.
Our courses offer the balance of an online group setting which allows for social interactions and connections, and the focus of a private lesson for one-on-one attention, as we understand the importance of live teacher-student engagement. This allows for a steady flow of both teacher-student feedback and peer-to-peer feedback, both of which are at the core of an enriching learning environment.
Our dedication, our passion and our commitment to music and to education is what brought us here, and it is what will continue to help us unleash the power of music for life, for many years to come. Welcome to Merriam High School!

Merriam High School
Each year, Merriam Music receives literally hundreds of applications from graduates of some of the most esteemed music institutions in the world: Juilliard, Eastman, University of Toronto, Wilfrid Laurier, Western University, Humber College, York University, Queens University and more. Fewer than 1 in 5 will receive an interview, and less than 1 in 20 will be invited to join Merriam’s elite team.
We’re very proud to boast one of the highest staff retention rates in our industry, with the average teacher staying 4.7 years; the industry average is just over 1 year. Our robust training program, that allows the teachers to see experienced teachers in action and provides an opportunity to practice on real students ensures that our teachers are prepared for and excited for that first lesson.
Our educators are dedicated to the craft of teaching and love the opportunity to learn and grow themselves as they work with their students to achieve their full potential.
